Please take a look at the article I posted yesterday on the subject of cleansing diets and fasting. I stated in the article that I would post on the blog a cleansing diet plan and here it is!!
This cleansing diet consists of eating only organic fruits and vegetables, vegetable broths and juices as well as fruit juices (diluted by 2/3 with water). All fruits, preferably undried, and vegetables are allowed on this diet. It will contain high amounts of vitamins, minerals, fiber, some starch and some protein. This diet can be followed for three days to three weeks. It will allow your body too reduce it's toxic load and will flush and cleanse the intestinal tract. It is an alkalinizing diet (see article on Acid vs Alkaline diets) and an excellent weight loss program.
Fruits Allowed (all)(eat a variety): melons, apples, apricots, peaches, figs, bananas, citrus fruits, berries, cherries, nectarine, pear, plum, currants, grapes, persimmon, pineapple, tomato, dates, raisins, kiwi, pomegranate, avocado, guava, mango, papaya, etc.
Vegetables (and their juices and broths): celery, carrots, kale, cauliflower, broccoli, fresh corn, potatoes, sweet potatoes, yams, all winter squash, peppers, eggplant, brussel sprouts, cabbage, leaf lettuce, asparagus, beet greens, beets, chard, mustard greens, endive, escarole, napa cabbage, artichoke, sprouts, parsnip, turnip, rutabaga, onion, garlic, jicama, Jerusalem artichoke, summer squash, zucchini okra, cucumber, pickle, parsley, watercress, coconut, chives, fresh green beans, mushrooms, kelp and seaweeds, kohlrabi, leek, pumpkin, etc.
Do not eat any animal or flesh foods, any dairy products, eggs, bread, rice, oatmeal, millet, barley, nuts or seeds or legumes. These foods are not in the category of a cleansing food.
Drink only herbal teas, diluted fruit or vegetable juices, vegetable broths or water. It is best to avoid coffee during this time (warning: you may experience withdrawals of lethargy and headaches for 2 or 3 days of withdrawals from coffee. Gradually reducing you coffee intake
before undertaking the cleansing diet will help to minimize the withdrawal symptoms).
Continue with normal vitamins and minerals and medications as necessary.
All vegetables on this diet can be eaten steamed, baked or raw. If you are eating the vegetables as a salad you can use lemon juice or oil and vinegar as a light dressing.
As always when I see the list of food allowed on a cleansing diet I realize how much I love all of these fruits and vegetables and that a cleansing diet is a cornucopia of flavors rather than a sacrifice.
